The Game Plan
One of the reasons I spend ample amounts of time in prayer and contemplation is to hear from God and receive as much direction as I possibly can from Him. It's my goal every day to move in step with what God desires. I may not get it perfectly right all the time, but I do hope that I'm getting better at it every single day.
I believe that God knows the game plan for my life, work, and ministry. And if God knows the game plan, wouldn't it be wise for me to seek it out from Him? In fact, it is God's desire and delight to give us wisdom and direction. He doesn't want to hide His will from any of us. James wrote these words in his letter: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him" (Jam. 1:5 ESV). God wants to give us wisdom and to do so generously. But there's a catch according to that verse: we have to be willing to genuinely ask it from Him.
I also believe that God's game plan is perfect. God perfectly knows what He is doing in our world. He is far wiser than any person on earth. According to one of the psalms, God's way is perfect (see Ps. 18:30).
If I believe that God knows the game plan for my life and that this game plan is perfect, I'd be foolish not to ask God for wisdom, help, and direction. My times of prayer and contemplation are ways for me to humbly approach God so that I can know His will and desires for my life. How else will I know the game plan if I don't ask it from the Lord?
I do want to note that although God may know the entire game plan for my life (God knows all things), He may not necessarily reveal the entire plan to me (and for good reason). Usually, God reveals just a portion of the game plan—the part of the plan that I need for now. He usually just gives me enough to work with for the time being. I simply need to be faithful and obedient to the next steps that He has revealed. In due time, God will reveal more of the game plan to me. And that keeps me coming back again and again to God for wisdom and guidance. It never stops.
Do you believe that God is in charge of your life, work, and ministry? Do you believe that He knows the perfect game plan for you? Do you trust Him enough to seek after it from Him? God desires to give you wisdom and guidance and He wants to empower you through the Holy Spirit to do it. Come to God in prayer and contemplation to know the next steps He has for your life.
