Spiritual Activity while Commuting
Unless you're working from home, you're likely commuting to your workplace every day. You might drive your own vehicle or ride a bicycle. You might take public transportation like the bus or the subway. If you live close enough to where you work (you're blessed!), you might simply walk to the office.
I wonder if we could use our travel times to connect with God somehow? Many of us commute for significant amounts of time each day. It's not unusual to meet someone who requires a whole hour to travel from their home to their workplace. This is precious time that could be used to connect with God in possibly meaningful ways.
I do want to emphasize that you should remain safe at all times if you choose to incorporate connecting with the Lord during your commute. An example of a relatively safe activity is to listen to worship music while driving or taking public transportation. If you can't be safe on your commute while engaging in a spiritual activity, it's better to only concentrate on getting to your destination safely. Prioritize your safety.
One of the things that I like to do is recall memorized Scripture while driving. I'm usually alone in the car when I travel from place to place. My commute then becomes a good opportunity for me to recall a few words of wisdom from the Bible. Sometimes, I might have my young son with me in the car. He can't speak yet in full sentences so there's no point in having a full-blown conversation with him right now. But he often hears papa declaring memorized Bible verses over us in the car. It's a simple way for me to influence my son with the important things of God.
Incorporating spiritual activity during a commute is a creative way for busy people to connect with the Lord when time is short. We can have very busy schedules and trying to find time in between responsibilities can be a challenge. Consider what you can do safely during your travel time. Try listening to worship music or praying for somebody (with your eyes open, of course, while driving!) or listening to an audio Bible or a recorded sermon. You will hopefully begin to see that you have plenty of opportunities to connect with the Lord each and every day if you're intentional and creative about it. But remember: stay safe at all times if you choose to do something during your daily commute.
